You know, I am honestly not upset about anything that has happened in my life; life is enigmatic, as miraculous and as boring as I have ever believed (because I don’t believe in bordom or miracles one bit). Life keeps putting in my path many tests, and yes, they are marvelous! The voice of life is, again, unbelievable. All of these tests are a blessing (for though I cannot explain why) I am absolutely thrilled with.

My grandfather has spent his whole life hunting the mountains of the Mendocino National Forest, and boy, when we’re up there, he loves to tell me stories.
As I drew this illustration of Black Diamond Mountain, he told me about a time when he trekked through a wild fire on Snow Mountain (which is, at this view at least, behind both Black Diamond and St. John, at an elevation of seven thousand feet) with his brother, Jerry (who just passed away a two weeks ago) and dad. He laughed as he told me how loud and roaring a wildfire is, and described how it creeps up the trunk of a pine tree very slowly, but when it gets to the needles- whoooooom! it’s gone!
I can listen to him for hours, and do, for days actually.

It still makes me sad that this sign is just left here alongside the building to rot, but I can’t help but feel a sense of adventure as I slip behind the planter box out of view of the gas station and usually empty parking lot to pay my respects. Though it’s not much of a space, or view, it’s my own little oasis.

“Are you going to fly away?” chuckles grandpa as his crossed arms bounce against his age-bloated stomach.
I feel a simple smile appear on my face instantly, and I reply “Well I can sure hope to, can’t I?”

Evening May rainstorm coming over the mountain, with it’s eyes set on me.

Journal entry by moonlight on the mountain.

You can probably hear my thoughts clear as day through my breath.
Sliding in and out of my nostrils,
sweeping through the room like a thousand tornadoes -
each carrying a separate word, stirring static into the heavy silence.
I can see the dust bunnies under the antique furniture that escaped this years spring cleaning trembling,
so how are we sitting so still?

Now I speak with earplugs in -
not certainly clear,
but knowing all the same.

Last day of vacation is always reserved for editing,

I’m getting back into carrying my camera around with me again,
and man, it’s sure amazing to see the world through a viewfinder again,
but I’m not used to sitting on my ass staring at a computer screen for this long anymore.

I just got in from Stonyford, it’s 8:37am and I have nothing else to do today besides edit and post. Grandpa and I spent three days putting the land to good use, having the time of our lives.
Can’t wait to share the magic of the hills with all of you

On the road again tomorrow!
It was wonderful being home for a couple days and updating this blog! Now I head for the hills with my grandpa. I am feeling amazing, and I’ve gotten back in touch with my inner child, so I have no doubts that I will have a good last three days of vacation up there.
Time to get some dust on my boots ;)
